NATALIE WATTS - Forest Preschool teacher
Natalie was born and raised in central Alabama and spent most of her childhood looking for any excuse to be outside. These early moments sparked a lifelong curiosity about the natural world and inspired her to pursue an Environmental Studies degree at Maryville College. After graduation, Natalie joined a conservation corps before going on to work as a research technician at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab, where she conducted coastal ecology research along Alabama’s Gulf Coast. Her work at the lab deepened her appreciation for the nature, but it's her desire to share that wonder with young learners that led her to Wauhatchie. She immediately fell in love with the natural beauty and outdoor opportunities so she packed up and moved by herself to the Chattanooga area as soon as the festival ended. After spending the last 15 years in the service industry, Smiley is grateful that her path led her to the forest with Wauhatchie School.
